John and Jane Smith are seemingly normal, well-heeled young married couple, living in a charming brownstone in Manhattan, but they’re spies posing as husband and wife, and embarking on dangerous and exciting missions that bring them around the globe. They’re supposed to keep their cover story straight keep their minds on the perilous job at hand, but soon they start to fall in love, and that’s when the whole thing gets even more complicated. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine star in a reimagining of that silly hitman and woman caper from 2005 starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

One Day

February 8th, Netflix

Here’s a love story that spans decades, but the action only takes place on one day, July 15th. We meet Em and Dex, who first meet on that date in 1988. In each episode, we meet Em and Dex again on the same day a year later, and a year older, to see how their love story is progressing. They’ve broken up, made up, fallen apart and come back together, but each year something is keeping them in each other’s orbit (probably love). It’s based on the best-selling novel by David Nicholls.

Well, don’t believe a word of this new comedy series, but believe you me, you’ll laugh your butt off at these tall tales from the imagination of Staples and his writing team. In this parallel universe, Vince gets thrown in jail, gets into a stare-out match with a mascot at an amusement park, and gets shot at by a randomer.

Life & Beth

February 16th, Disney+

Amy Schumer returns as the titular Beth in series two of the romantic comedy-romance-drama, and she’s got back with John (Michael Cera) after they broke up at the end of the first series, and things are getting serious, with words like “marriage” and “kids” being bandied about. Can she and John make it work this time? And can Beth learn from her past relationship mistakes? Violet Young co-stars as young Beth in a regular string of flashbacks.

February 21st, Apple TV+

Noomi Rapace stars in this epic space adventure series that will reach all the way to the outer edges of the human psyche. Some think the moon landings were a hoax – well, what if reality itself was one big conspiracy? Rapace plays astronaut Jo, who is on her way back to Earth after surviving a space disaster- but when she gets home she’s astonished to find huge chunks of her life have been changed or erased. To pick up the lost pieces, Jo will have to go down a dark and scary rabbit-hole.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

February 22nd, Netflix

You watched the animated series when you were a kid way back in 2010, and now you’re a bit older, here’s the grown-up live action series bringing it all back to life once again. You know the story: four nations, each with power over one of the four elements – fire, earth, air and water – have lived in harmony for years, with the Avatar keeping the delicate peace. But now the equilibrium is threatened when the Fire Nation wipes out the Air Nomads, and a new Avatar must emerge to restore balance. Enter young air nomad Aang, who sets out on a quest to save the world with help from his trusty chums.

In 17th-century Japan, the shogun was a highly respected military leader tasked with quelling the marauding barbarians. So, a job with a lot of responsibility. This adaptation of James Clavell’s novel is set in the year 1600, as Japan is about to be rived by civil war, and Lord Yoshii Toranaga is battling for survival as his enemies range against him. Help comes from an unlikely quarter: an English pilot, John Blackthorne, whose ship is marooned in a fishing village, and from a noblewoman who is acting as translator between the two. Expect lots of gravity-defying fight scenes.
