Playing ‘Millionaire’ politics

Sir, – Recent study of Irish politics in action has convinced me more than once that it is essentially a game of Who Wants to be a Millionaire . Our parties seem to reflect the lifelines which that said TV programme offers. Let's face it when we vote Fianna Fáil we want the politics of "phone a friend". When we vote Fine Gael/Labour it would seem that we are expressing a wish to go "50/50". And now with the Meath East byelection, when we vote for Direct Democracy Ireland we want to "ask the audience".

Is it time to bring Chris Tarrant to the voting booths to check out if our voters are really worthy contestants? – Yours, etc,

HUGH W McCORMACK,
