Bag it

Anya Hindmarch hit the headlines some years ago when her rope handled canvas carrier bag “I Am Not A Plastic Bag” making a political point about plastic became a best seller and then a collector’s item.

This season, the Portuguese company Parfois have extended slogans from t-shirts onto totes in the same spirit but with a feminist twist.

Their #womensupportingwomen campaign is inspired by Cyndi Lauper's 1980s women's lib song Girls Just Want to Have Fun.

Sold in packs of two for €12.99, the totes have slogans “Girls Just Want To Be Heard” and “Girls Just Want Less Judgement”.

The idea of the initiative is to buy the pack, keep one for yourself and give the other to a woman that you decide to support or honour.

You can also write your own ending to the sentence beginning “Girls Just Want . . .” to save or share directly on social media.

The totes can only be bought online.

Wanderlust

The latest H&M Studio collection is based around the idea of a free spirited glamorous adventure.

“She might be going to a party in a sequined skirt, but next morning getting up early for yoga in metallic stripe leggings” so you get the picture of that mix of high glamour and utilitarian pieces.

Key items are a rainbow hued printed dress, a sequin spattered skirt and a structured utility jacket.

Prices start at €4.99 for earrings and €34.99 for shoes and upwards.

Lulu dress

The classic frou frou fabric of ballet dresses, tulle, as everyone may be aware, is having a fashion moment largely thanks to Maria Grazia Chiuri creative head of Dior who used classical ballet dancers for her spring/summer collection.

Here in Ireland, Niamh O’Neill has used it elegantly in this dress called Lulu over a fitted bodice and skirt in pink crepe.

It’s €395 from her latest collection which includes bold floral prints in navy or pink hand printed onto silk for summery wrap dresses and, for the first time, Irish linen in plain pink and navy from Baird McNutt in Co Antrim for some 1950s style fit and flare shaped dresses.

Her Italian made fiocchetti cotton features little coloured bows woven into the fabric and there is also some rainbow printed lace for extra texture.

Many dresses have kimono sleeves and the whole collection drew from La Tehuana in Mexico where women dress in extravagant costumes and parade through the streets at the velas traditional parties in festive style.
