Whether it's a chalet in Provence, a passivehaus in Dresden, or a skyscraper in Singapore, we’re interested in hearing stories from readers around the world about the homes you live in, to feature in Abroad online and also in the Home&Design print supplement of The Irish Times.
If you would like to contribute, we’re looking for stories of around 500 words that describe your home and how you live in it, or an interesting design and build or interiors project. The more unusual the story the better. Here are some questions to get you started:
Are you renting or have you bought your home abroad? If you have bought, what was your experience in house hunting and buying; how would it compare to househunting and buying in Ireland in your view?
If you are renting, are you in an apartment or a house and how does it compare to a similar property in Ireland?
Describe your home and tell us about the features that surprise or intrigue you. How does the design suit the setting you live in?
How much living space do you have? How does this compare to a similar home in Ireland?
What is your favourite room and why?
What is the view from your home?
What features are lacking, or do you miss from an Irish domestic interior?
Are there any standard domestic features that baffle you?
Is there a good sense of community where you live?
Do you share facilities (recreational, laundry, etc) with your neighbours and if so, how does that work?
In your view is the standard of building better/worse/about the same where you are living in Ireland?
What interior design ideas, appliances or the furnishings would you like to export to Ireland, or take home with you ?
Email your story to abroad@irishtimes.com, and include a few sample photos, including an external shot with you in it. If there is a great view from your home please send that too. Thank you.
