When a house is advertised as having sea views in Dublin it can mean anything from a distant glimpse from a back bedroom if you have binoculars, to this – panoramic views from just about every window in The Yellow House on Strand Road in Killiney. The Victorian house, built in the 1890s, is a coastal property, set sideways on the 0.7 acre site in a quiet cul de sac that runs parallel to the sea. Longtime house hunters in the Co Dublin suburb will probably know the Yellow House already.

It has been on the market intermittently since 2008 and not surprisingly given the time frame involved it has seen considerable price drops. It first was offered for sale for the boomtastic price of €4.25million, which even then and even for a house on the Co Dublin coast, was very strong.

By 2010 it had been reduced to €2.2 million with smaller drops following throughout that year and still no takers. Now the 240sq m (2,600sq ft) four-bed detached house is for sale through the Landsdowne Partnership for €1.85 million.

It has many period features and several of the rooms have a dual aspect to maximise the light and those spectacular sea views. The layout at ground level has been altered by the owners with the addition of a large extension at the rear to make space for a kitchen/ breakfastroom with vaulted ceilings and a wall of French doors.
