Modernised bungalow in Greystones

Renovated family home with southerly aspect for €700,000

When Niamh and Enda O'Connor purchased their current home at 14 Mountainview Park in Greystones in 2004, the interior of the house had an L-shaped layout, was difficult to heat and the bedrooms lay to the rear. "In 2006 we knocked the entire thing with only one wall remaining," says quantity surveyor Enda.

The rear of the property now accommodates the family living spaces taking full advantage of its southerly aspect. The attic underwent a full conversion and now houses three of the four bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Today the property boasts 203sq m (2,184sq ft) of living space, a considerable increase from the original footprint of 126sq m (1,354sq ft).

To the front lies a playroom adjacent to an office, in which the O’Connor’s installed a home cinema including a neat walnut pelmet which discretely hides the screen.

The theme of keeping technology out of sight is further seen in the familyroom where sliding walnut screens hide the television and its accoutrements keeping ugly cables and electronics out of view. There is also a modern Bellfires gas fire which stretches to over a metre in length set into a stained oak and travertine wall. The modern wenge kitchen with Silestone countertops features high end Siemens appliances, custom built extractor fan and opens out onto a maintenance free deck.

A utility off the kitchen leads to an integrated garage where new owners can store all the paraphernalia a family requires without having to leave the house.

Number 14 is a fine example of how a jaded bungalow can be transformed into a modern family home. The O'Connor's are staying local and have placed their house on the market through Sherry FitzGerald with an asking price of €700,000.
