The six-bedroom house on 25 acres is scheduled for auction on July 12th through Sherry Fitzgerald O'Leary, which is guiding £850,000 (1.079 m).

The house, on the main Carlow road, is approached by a tree-lined driveway leading up to a solidly impressive entrance. Inside there are three large reception rooms. The drawingroom features a marble fireplace and decorative cornicing. The diningroom also has a black marble fireplace as well as a solid fuel burner and the family's livingroom, which overlooks the all-weather tennis court, has similar period features.

The large square kitchen on the ground floor has ash units and off it is a well-equipped utility room. Also at this level is a return with two bedrooms, a shower room and sauna.

The tall arched window on the half landing makes the entire staircase and upstairs landing bright. The master bedroom is the most impressive bedroom, giving views of the River Slaney through two grand windows. It has a full-size en suite bathroom and a dressing area. There are three other bedrooms on this level.

Accommodation in the basement comprises a games room and a study as well as the old kitchen and various work rooms including a laundry.

Outside there is a small stone built cottage, as well as kennels and stables. These are in an appealing enclosed courtyard made all the more attractive as the outbuildings are in the same exposed stone.

The house was the home of singer Gilbert O'Sullivan in the 1980s and one of its quirks is that the upper floor of one of the stable blocks is sound proofed - it was once kitted out as a recording studio. An unusual feature in the house is the four person lift which the present owners do not use but think is still working.

Most of the house has been repainted and redecorated in the past six years and despite the wear and tear of a growing family it is in good condition,

The house is surrounded by lawn and the grounds also include a south-facing patio area and an illuminated pond.
