Glasnevin/€700,000: The last time this house at 13 Ballymun Road in Glasnevin was sold the owners would have dealt directly with the builder, Alexander Strain.

That was in 1911 and the 138 sq m (1,482 sq ft) four-bedroom house has been in the same family ever since. It is now for sale by auction on May 5th through Lisney with a guide of €700,000.

The semi-detached houses on this side of the road are substantial redbricks, set well back and with good gardens to both front and rear.

Inside, number 13 feels substantial and solid in the way of all Strain's houses. There are bay windows to the front on both storeys, a bright and airy hallway and downstairs, the ceilings are high. Period features include stained glass windows, decorative cornicework and marble fireplaces in the interconnecting reception rooms.

There are four bedrooms, one on the first floor return, the others at the top of the house. The largest has the benefit of the bay window. Downstairs, as well as the beautifully proportioned reception rooms, there is a breakfastroom and a small kitchenette.

While the house has been very well cared for by its owner, new owners will redecorate and update, particularly in the kitchen where they may well wish to knock rooms together to make a large modern eat-in kitchen. This is a semi-detached house so there is access to the mature 85 ft back garden via a side entrance.
