The Ros Tapestry currently being exhibited at the Farmleigh Gallery is an astonishing and unique Irish work of art and craftsmanship that gives an insight into Norman Ireland. As A Tale Told In Thread, it consists of 15 panels that depict the history of New Ross, once one of the most important ports in Ireland.
The detailed designs for the tapestries are by the artist Ann Griffin Bernstorff; her daughter Alexis, a textile specialist, has been supervising 100 volunteer stitchers and embroiderers for the project which started almost 14 years ago. On February 23rd at 2pm, Griffin Bernstorff will give a talk on the tapestry, in the gallery. For details, tel: 01-815 5980. The exhibition runs until April 1st.
