Marian Keyes discusses her struggles with alcoholism

Bestselling author says she is working on two new books in interview with Roísín Ingle

Novelist Marian Keyes has detailed her struggles with alcoholism and explained how she has tried many different techniques to manage her emotions.

In an interview with Roísín Ingle, Keyes, whose latest novel The Woman Who Stole My Life is at the top of the UK bestsellers list, also provides details about the two new books she is working on.

On self help, Keyes tells this week’s Roísín Meets podcast: “I have done everything, I am such an eejit. Anyone could say anything to me.... I have been to psychics, I have been to angel channelers, I have done cognitive behavior therapy, I’ve done things like emotional freedom therapy, where they tap you, mindfulness meditation, medication up the wazoo… I am done. I am doing nothing every again. I wont even read my horoscope. Because I think I thought that everyone else was happy, and I was the only one doing it wrong”.

On her next novel, the author explains: “It’s called ‘Time Off For Bad Behaviour’. I said I’d never write a sequel, but it’s about Clare from Watermelon. But because it’s 20 years later, I’m hoping that people won’t regard it as a sequel, but more as a revisiting. I’ve written about all five of the Walsh sisters now, and I love them. I can’t let them go”.
