THE SOCIAL NETWORK:Little Harper Beckham took some of her first steps in public, at Brown Thomas on Grafton Street in Dublin on Wednesday, when she attended the runway show of her mother's autumn-winter 2012 collection.

Judging by the hype on the internet, where images of the walkabout circulated, this was an event redolent of Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon (43 years ago today, as it happens).

Victoria Beckham flew in for a few hours to meet the fashion press and more than 50 customers who have supported her fashion brands. The appearance at BT of the singer turned designer also attracted fans.

John Kavanagh of the Carlyle Institute led a group of Brazilian students who hoped to catch a glimpse of the former Posh Spice. “I was dragged along,” he told me.

Karla Cusack, from Raheny in Dublin, has been a fan of Beckham’s since 1996. “I love her clothes. They fit every type of woman.”

Amy Goldsmith, from Laragh in Co Wicklow, and her friend Sophie Kelly, from Dundrum in Dublin, who are both students at Avondale Community College, were excited about seeing Beckham, who wore a €2,450 sombre dark coat from her collection.

Denise Rearden, from Donadea, Co Kildare, said Beckham’s two clothes brands “look wonderful, but I’ve never worn any of them.”
