THE SOCIAL NETWORK:At the American Women's Club of Dublin coffee morning on Anglesea Road, Dublin, on Wednesday, board member Nancy Ward was finally getting used to saying "Happy Christmas" after six years in Ireland.
“In America it has got so PC, everyone has to say ‘Happy Holidays’.” The club’s president, Yvonne Kennedy, welcomed members to the club’s 40th birthday celebrations; Anne McDonald hosted a “cookie-exchange” while her husband John dressed up as Santa.
Patti Shields, AWCD’s membership director, is married to Cork native Aidan Shields, who is the CFO of Primark. Sue Elliot said the club “saved my life” when she found herself divorced with children in Dublin. Trude Visser from Norway has been a member since its inception in 1972.
The club also raises money for charity, with the Jack and Jill Foundation the chosen charity this year. Carrie Moyles, originally from Arkansas, is head of philanthropy and is organising a “fire-walk” next year.
