GO KIDS:Anyone who has ever attempted to build the perfect sandcastle will be in awe at the sheer artistry on display at the Duncannon Sand Sculpting Festival this weekend.

The beach in Wexford is the venue for the sand art festival and the weekend-long event is now a full-on family event. Sculptors from all over Europe have been arriving all week to begin work on their giant masterpieces on what is a perfect venue – Duncannon beach is one of the best in the southeast.

As well viewing the amazing work, today and tomorrow there will be free entertainment on the beach, including a soccer tournament. Child-friendly events include puppet shows, a climbing wall, face-painting, beach games, painting wall, and a kids fancy dress competition. Expect to see some kitesurfers limbering up in the water because the 2011 Irish Kite Surfing Championship will take place on Duncannon beach next weekend.
