The Day the Wild things took over the County Hall– what a great title for an afternoon of author readings, workshops and all sorts of literary-based fun.

The County Hall is the one in Dún Laoghaire (just opposite the Dart station, so it’s easy to get to), the day is tomorrow and the event is designed for children as part of the Mountains to the Sea Dún Laoghaire Book Festival.

Unusually, it’s been designed for children of all ages so there are events suitable for all from popular author and illustrator Niamh Sharkey’s session for three-year-olds to the talk by illustrators Chris Haughton and Kevin Waldron who will talk about the graphics side of working on children’s books and which should appeal to older children.

Admission to Country Hall is free and there will be sign up sheets for the different sessions.

While in Dún Laoghaire, you could pick up a picnic at the farmers’ market in nearby People’s Park which runs on Sundays from 11am-4pm. It’s one of the busiest and most diverse farmers’ markets around.

There’s organic fruit and veg, as well as organic juices and several stalls selling hot snacks and the range of food includes an impressive range of ethnic dishes.

Though be careful, it’s all so tempting you could spend a fortune.
