** For the past 33 years EV+A, an annual event in Limerick, has been an eye-opening showcase for contemporary art. It’s a 10-week exhibition (ending on May 24th), and it takes place in six locations: Limerick City Gallery of Art, Istabraq Hall at Limerick City Hall, the Hunt Museum, the former LIT School of Art Design building on George’s Quay, by the Abbey River at Charlotte Quay, and Daghdha Space in St John’s Square. Entrance to all exhibitions is free.

** It’s an intriguing exhibition for children, because the range of pieces on show challenges traditional ideas of what art is all about, from Jochen Schmith’s giant letters spelling out “The Right to Be Lazy” on the lawn at the Hunt Museum to Gavin Redmond’s text on the wall at the Limerick City Gallery.
** Susan Holland will facilitate a free family day at Limerick City Gallery of Art (061-310633, http://gallery. limerick.ie) today at 11.30am and 2pm. Here, children will be encouraged to visit the installations at the gallery and to develop creative responses to the exhibition. It’s hands-on, with the children making art through drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. Parents and minders will be encouraged to join in too.
