Orienteering

Great Eastern Navigators Orienteering Club is running a “come and try it” event in Corkagh Park, Clondalkin, tomorrow. This event is open to all and is from 11am to 1pm. Registration is near the car park at St John’s Green. There are three courses to choose from, with distances from 1.9km to 5.5km. Each participant will get a map and must make their way around the course, finding the controls in the fastest time possible. The cost per map is €5 (adult) and €3 (child). See orienteering.ie.

Surf's upBundoran is hosting the 2011 European Surfing Championships (which started yesterday) until Sunday, October 2nd. There are eight days of competition, nightly entertainment, free gigs, street entertainment, and a film festival including the screening of Soul Surfer.See eurosurfbundoran.com.

Fungi FestivalKillegar Estate, Carrigallen, Co Leitrim, is the location for a mushroom festival tomorrow. There is a packed schedule of events including guided walks, cookery demonstrations, storytelling, bee-keeping, archaeology, herb walk and treasure hunts. Entry is from €15 (adult) to €5 (students/OAPs/unwaged). Guided walks are the same. See killegar.net.

Big HeartBaltimore and the Islands Big Heart walking festival in aid of the Irish Heart Foundation takes place next weekend. There will be two walks on Saturday: Inish Beg Estate (1.5 hours;) and Knockomagh Hill, Lough Hyne (2.5 hours). Cape Clear Island is the location for Sunday's walk (2.5 hours) – the ferry costs €16 (adult), €8 (child) and €40 (family of four). Suggested donation per walk is €5 for adults, and €2.50 per child with under 10s free. See baltimore.ie.
