Three-day walk through Co Mayo
Tourism Pure is leading a three-day walk, from May 15th to 17th, through the contrasting landscapes of Co Mayo’s bogs, forests and coast. Barry Murphy, who lives in the west, will lead the small group. A registered trainer of the Leave No Trace outdoor ethics programme, Murphy also leads seminars and workshops on ecotourism and sustainable tourism. Lough Eske walks
Harvey's Point Hotel, on Lough Eske in Co Donegal, is hosting a four-day rambling break from April 27th. Led by an experienced guide, a series of walks from easy rambles to longer, more difficult treks have been developed to cater for all needs. The itinerary will include a meet-and-greet for the entire group on the evening of arrival. Breakfast each morning will be followed by guided walks, with packed lunches to fuel activities along the way. Blue Stack festival
In the same county, Donegal Bluestacks Walking Festival takes place over the May bank holiday weekend. Based in Donegal town, participants will spend two days in the mountains, hearing the area’s myths and legends as they go. See www.blue stackramblers.com.
Wicklow wild-flower walk
Learn to identify some of the wild flowers of Knocksink Wood (above), near Enniskerry, in Co Wicklow, and discover a little about their ecology, folklore and history.
