International Mountain DayThe Mountaineering Council of Ireland is appealing to affiliated clubs and members around the country to organise events around UN International Mountain Day, which falls on December 11th. The theme of this year's day is food security in mountains. The aim is to highlight the global importance of mountain ecosystems among a wide audience, including the public, governments, intergovernmental organisations, NGOs, UN agencies, the private sector and the media, and to promote action at all levels for meaningful change in the world's mountains and highlands. www.mountaineering.ie.

Upperchurch walkA reminder that Upperchurch Walking Festival takes place this weekend in north Co Tipperary. There are three walks over the weekend. A 17km walk on Slí Eamoinn an Chnoic, suitable for very fit walkers; the 10km Knockalough Walk, for walkers with an average level of fitness; and the Birch Hill Walk, also over 10km. www.upperchurch.ie.
