Most of us would be lost on holidays in a new city without a travel book or app to help us find our way, but no guide beats being told about the hidden gems by a local.

Do you know a particular city or town abroad like the back of your hand, and have insights you think holidaymakers would appreciate? When friends come to visit, are there places you recommend that the travel guides haven’t found and the locals don’t want to be discovered?

The Irish Times is looking for local experts to share their insider knowledge of the place where they live abroad, or where they holiday often.

You could focus on a particular theme, like best places to eat or drink, or a walking tour of your favourite part of the city with great places to stop off along the way; or you could write a general guide to the must-sees and must-dos. For an example, read On the tapas trail in Barcelona.
