Saturday morning

Start the day with coffee at Hucks café and music space on Grove Road. Grab a giant cookie from the pastry selection and gaze into Blackduke vintage shop next door, for mid-century teak and stylish home decor.

Saturday afternoon

Visit God's Own Junkyard, a neon sign shrine (above) to the work of Chris Bracey, artist and collector (godsownjunkyard.co.uk). Drinks are best taken at the Castle, where the Bloody Mary is on point. Eat 17 is one of Walthamstow's most popular eateries (eat17.co.uk).

If nature walks are more your speed, pack a picnic and visit Epping Forest, a brief jaunt away, or Leyton Marshes, a riot of wildlife and wilderness.

Saturday evening

Mirth, Marvel and Maud is a fantastic new bar and venue (mirthmarvelandmaud.com). The best sourdough pizza in the East End is at Sodo Pizza, and dessert is a must (sodopizza.co.uk).

Sunday morning/afternoon

Try a roast for breakfast/brunch at The Queens Arms (queensarms-e17.co.uk). Or pick up some breakfast meats from the East London Sausage Company on Orford Road and have a lazy Sunday fry up.
