Ireland third in US poll

IRELAND is the third favourite destination of Americans planning to take a holiday with their tax refunds according to a poll taken a week before US taxpayers must file individual returns. Australia is Americans’ number one destination, with Italy in second place.

About 57 per cent of nearly 1,000 people questioned in a national poll conducted by Travel Leaders Franchise Group said they would use part of their refund for a trip; 83 per cent said they’d spend as much on travel this year as they did in 2010. The average refund was around $3,070 (€2,124).

The number of towels stolen or lost per month at one Honolulu hotel which has now invested in a tracking system for towels involving a washable chip sewn into towels, robes and bedsheets to deter theft. The hotel introduced the technology last summer and losses of its towels are now 750 a month.
