Marlfield recitals
Marlfield House hotel in Gorey, Co Wexford (marlfieldhouse.com), is hosting a series of spring and summer lunchtime recitals. On April 25th it features the mezzo Rachel Kelly and the baritone Gavan Ring. On May 30th you can hear The Irish Sopranos – Deirdre Masterson, Wendy Dwyer and Kay Lynch – and on June 13th the soprano Gabriela Istoc and the tenor Dean Power perform. On July 18th The Fighting Irish, featuring the tenor Matthew Gilsenan and the RTÉ broadcaster Myles Dungan, is "a story in words and music" about Irish who have fought in American armies.
Tickets cost €65 for lunch and recital; €25 for recital only. On May 3rd there will be an exhibition of art by Gearóid Hayes, Trevor Geoghegan, Mark O’Neill and Elizabeth Cope.
Cut-price sailing
Members of Heir Island Sailing School (heirisland sailingschool.com), in west Cork, who bring a new friend to weekly sailing in June, July and August can sign up for half price – which works out at €262.50 per person. The offer is limited to the first 40 people who respond. Weekly rates are being discounted by 20 per cent for the first 20 people who respond, making the rate €280. Second or subsequent members of the same family get 10 per cent off, and those sailing for a second or subsequent week can get 50 per cent off, at €175 a week.
