Go kids:The Waterford Festival of Food in Dungarvan has a serious calendar of talks and demonstrations for foodies but it's also a family event – particularly at the weekend.
The event started earlier this week and ends tomorrow, and is now in its fourth year with the festival growing to include fringe events and outdoor events.
There are craft fairs, farmers’ markets and street entertainment.
Today at King John’s Castle there’s the Agri-aware “mobile farm” from 11am-3pm where children can see farmyard animals up close.
At Walton Park today from 3pm to 5pm you can bring your own picnic and take part in the festival’s “Fun Food Olympics”. There’ll be juggling, bowling and throwing – presumably with apples, oranges and potatoes, tricky with spinach and eggs – with music coming from the Marvellous Music Marquee.
Tomorrow in the Old Market House Crafts Centre join artist Esther Heffernan to paint your own watercolour food themed card – free, in 30-minute sessions from noon.

Dromana House
An interesting diversion would be a trip to Dromana House (€5 entry) and Gardens (€5 entry) on the Blackwater with its extraordinary Hindu Gothic gate lodge which was built in 1849 to welcome home a couple from their honeymoon.
