Two Britons have been remanded in custody after they yesterday pleaded guilty to possessing an estimated 500 million euro worth of cocaine seized by gardai, navy and customs officers in a joint operation off the West Cork coast last year.

Philip Doo (52) from Brixham, Devon, England and Christopher Wiggins (42) with an address at Estepona, Malaga, Spain both pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine for sale or supply on board the sloop, Dances with Waves on November 5th last.

Both men admitted the offence which is contrary to Section 15A of the Misuse of Drugs Act and Section 28 of The Criminal Justice (Illicit Traffic at Sea) Act when they were arraigned yesterday afternoon at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

Prosecution counsel, Tom Creed SC said that he was seeking to have both men remanded in custody with a view to sentencing going ahead on May 8th and Jim O'Mahony SC for Mr Doo and Marjorie Farrelly SC for Mr Wiggins said that they had no difficulty with that.

Judge Patrick Moran granted the state application and remanded both men, who were yesterday making their third circuit court appearance, in custody to Cork Prison to appear again at Cork Circuit Criminal Court on May 8th next.
