Leeside looks set to rock again this year after Aiken Promotions yesterday confirmed that Eric Clapton will play the fourth Live in the Marquee series in Cork this summer as rumours continued to grow that Neil Young will also play the popular venue.

Promoter Peter Aiken confirmed yesterday that Clapton will play the 5,000-seater marquee on June 20th as part of this year's line-up which also includes country and western star, Dolly Parton, former Jam frontman Paul Weller and top selling pop star Shayne Ward.

Aiken said he was delighted to be able to bring Clapton to Cork and he had no doubt that the concert would sell out given that after playing Cork and Malahide Castle in Dublin, he returns to the UK to play to 80,000 at Hyde Park.

"We're very excited about bringing Eric Clapton to Cork - he's played in some seminal bands, The Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith and Derek and the Dominoes as well as having a highly successful solo career - it's a great coup for us."

Aiken revealed that he would be announcing a number of other acts for the series over the next few weeks, and while he would not be drawn, speculation continues to grow that Neil Young will make it to Cork this year.

Christy Moore and comedian Tommy Tiernan are also booked.
