THE PEOPLE of Clare are to be offered a special deal for regular visits to the Cliffs of Moher, the company operating the visitor centre announced yesterday.

Ahead of the introduction of the new €6 charge for adults to see the 600ft cliffs next month, the new “local pass” will allow holders regular visits to the cliffs from August to the end of 2011 for €12.

The visitor centre’s director Katherine Webster said they are “hoping for a good take-up amongst Clare locals”, adding that the public reaction to the idea “has been overwhelmingly positive”.

The centre came under fire last month over its introduction of what it called its “family friendly” charge of €6 per adult, with children under 12 to go free.

However, Ms Webster said yesterday that the free admission is to be extended to under 16s, while a discounted rate of €4 will apply for senior citizens, students and disabled visitors.
