Part of Dublin's north city centre was sealed-off this morning after suspicions were raised that an abandoned vehicle contained an explosive device.

A red 2008 Dublin registered Nissan Qashqai which was stolen in Finglas two weeks ago was found abandoned near the junction of North Frederick Street and Hardwicke Street in the north city centre shortly after 11am.

Gardaí notified the bomb disposal team after receiving information that the vehicle contained a suspect device.

The bomb disposal team arrived on scene at 11.40 am and carried out a controlled explosion on the door of the vehicle allowing access to the vehicle.

The bomb disposal officer gave the all clear at 2.10 pm after establishing that the vehicle posed no threat to the public.

Gardaí are investigating.
