An investigation has been launched following the death of a four-year-old girl in an accident involving a tractor on a family farm at Tullylease near Charleville in north Cork at the weekend.
Miriam Cronin, from Knockeragh, Tullylease, died at around 5.30pm on Saturday evening when she was injured trying to get on the tractor of her father, Tom.
It is believed she had been returning home with her mother, Carmel, when she got out of the car and raced into a field where her father was cutting hay.
The girl was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was later removed to Cork University Hospital where Deputy State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster carried out a postmortem yesterday morning.
Gardaí later removed the tractor for technical examination and it is believed the Health and Safety Authority will also carry out an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
