Bomb found at Ballymena showgrounds

A pipe bomb was discovered in a car park at Ballymena Showgrounds in Co Antrim last night.

“The security alert caused considerable disruption to the event at the showgrounds this evening which had to be cancelled when the showgrounds were evacuated,” a PSNI spokesman said.

Some 500 spectators at the Ballymena Raceway were affected.

Police said the device had been taken away by a British army bomb disposal unit for further examination and the area had reopened.
