Man (35) accused of sexual assault and false imprisonment of woman at workplace

A 35-year-old man has been accused of false imprisonment and sexually assaulting a woman at his workplace.

He appeared at Dublin District Court on Thursday.

The man was arrested and charged at Bridewell Garda station in the capital. He told a Garda inspector, “not at this time”, when asked if he had anything to say in reply to five charges.

Judge Treasa Kelly adjourned the case until November 26th for the Director of Public Prosecutions to prepare the book of evidence for his trial. Bail was granted.

He is accused of three counts of sexual assault on a date on September 29th, 2020, at a building in Leinster.

He faces an allegation of false imprisonment of the woman at the same place.

The fifth charge is for engaging in offensive conduct of a sexual nature at another location from August 23rd, 2019, to February 25th last year.

Reporting restrictions were imposed in relation to the publication of his name and occupation.

The sexual assault charges are under section two of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act, 1990, as amended by Section 37 of the Sex Offenders Act 2001. False imprisonment is an offence contrary to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

The offensive conduct charge is under section 45(3) of the 2017 Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act.
