Man who robbed elderly pensioner in public toilet in court

Martin Morey is charged with robbing a man at Roxboro Shopping Centre in Limerick

A Limerick man charged with the robbery of an 85-year-old pensioner in a public toilet of a shopping centre has been further remanded in custody.

Martin Morey, with an address at McGarry House, St Alphonsus Street Limerick is charged with robbing a man of a black wallet containing €80 in cash and one black flip mobile phone valued at €50 at Roxboro Shopping Centre on July 30, last contrary to Section 14 of the Theft and Fraud Offences Act.

The pensioner had withdrawn cash from an ATM at the shopping centre and was allegedly robbed in a cubicle of a public toilet in the centre.

Mr Morey appeared before a vacation sitting of Limerick District Court today where his solicitor Sarah Ryan said her client was not seeking bail.

Previously the court heard the state would be objecting to bail.

Sargent John Moloney said there were no directions available from the Director of Public Prosecutions yet.

Judge Marie Keane remanded the accused in custody until next week August 26th next, when he is due to appear before the same court again.
