Two women bailed over alleged feud related assault in Longford store

Two women have appeared in court charged with assaulting another woman in a feud related incident which forced a Longford town department store to temporarily close last week.

Cindy Duignan (37), of Ardnacassa Avenue, Longford, and Teresa Dinnegan (35), of Springlawn, Longford, were arrested following an alleged brawl infront of staff and customers at Penneys in the Longford Centre on March 16th.

Sgt Enda Daly told Longford District Court that the prosecution had no objection to bail subject to a number of conditions. He said further charges may be submitted as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident, which was linked to an alleged feud between rival factions.

Among the bail conditions were that both accused reside at their current addresses, observe a curfew, provide a mobile phone number and remain contactable. Judge Bernadette Owens also ordered them to refrain from uploading any material to social media relating to the alleged incident and the other parties involved.

Ms Duignan said she would be seeking a relaxation of her curfew conditions to allow her to continue working for Center Parcs. Judge Owens said the court had no difficulty with this once prior notification was given to gardaí.

Ms Dinnegan called into question the severity of the court’s bail terms. “I am put on a curfew and I don’t know why because I was attacked in a store.”

The case was adjourned to a sitting of the court on June 7th, when directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions are expected.
