Man (29) charged in connection with Gareth Hutch murder

Father-of-one shot dead as he was getting into his car

A man (29) has been charged in connection with the murder of Gareth Hutch in inner city Dublin.

Gardaí in Mountjoy arrested the man in connection with the incident on May 24th, the day of the shooting. He is to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Wednesday morning.

Mr Hutch (35), a father-of-one, was shot dead as he was getting into his car outside the Avondale House flats on North Cumberland Street where he lived.

He was the seventh person and the third member of his family to be killed in the Kinahan-Hutch feud which began last September.

A woman appeared in court on Tuesday morning charged with withholding information from gardaí investigating last week’s murder.

Mary McDonnell (44), who was originally arrested last week, and with an address at Avondale House, North Cumberland Street, is charged with failing without reasonable excuse to disclose to gardaí, as soon as was practicable, information which she knew or believed might be of material assistance in securing the apprehension, prosecution or conviction of any other person for a serious offence.

Garda sources have said that while the investigation is at an early stage, there are witness reports of two attackers and that a large number of shots were fired.

The dead man was a cousin of Gary Hutch, who was shot dead in Marbella in September, and a nephew of murdered taxi driver Eddie Hutch.

Gardaí have said two handguns were found at the scene of the shooting.
