A man has been arrested after an attempted robbery at a post office in Dublin.
A number of men entered the premises in Baldoyle shortly before 1pm and threatened staff. At least one of them had a firearm, a Garda spokesman said.
They left without any money and got into a waiting car. No one was injured and no shots were fired.
Gardaí from Coolock who were on patrol in the area responded to a call abou tthe armed robbery in progress.
A 43-year-old man was arrested a short time later in nearby Portmarnock, the Garda spokesman said.
The car believed to have been involved in the robbery, a black BMW 1 series with an 08 OY registration, was last seen on Station Road in Portmarnock.
The man who was arrested is being held at Coolock Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Witnesses, anyone who saw suspicious activity in the vicinity of the post office prior to the attempted robbery, or anyone who may have seen the car before or afterwards should contact gardaí in Coolock, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any Garda station.
