Two hospitalised after driver loses control in Dublin crash, mounts pavement

A couple, both in their 50s, were seriously injured

Two people have been hospitalised after a driver involved in a two-vehicle crash in Dublin mounted the pavement and hit them.

The injured couple, a man and woman in their 50s, were both seriously injured and remained undergoing hospital treatment on Sunday.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who saw the crash in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, just after 8.30pm on Saturday to aid the investigation into the serious road traffic collision.

The incident occurred at the junction of Drumfinn Road and Drumfinn Avenue at 8.40pm when the two drivers crashed and one lost control of their car, mounting the footpath and hitting the two pedestrians, who were out walking at the time.

“They were taken to St James’s Hospital where they continue to receive treatment for their injuries,” a Garda statement said, adding anyone who was in the area between 8.15pm and 8.40pm should contact gardaí.

Any other road users who were in the area at the time, especially if they were recording dashcam footage, were also asked to contact investigating gardaí at Ballyfermot Garda station. The investigation team can be reached at (01) 666 7200 or via the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
