The professional bodies for the hotel industry are the Irish Hotel and Catering Institute, the Irish Hotels Federation and the Catering Managers Association of Ireland.

There are about 600 hotel managers in the country and 200 guest house managers

A recent pay survey conducted by the DIT found that managers of small three star hotels (average of 20 bedrooms) earn approximately £27,000. Managers of small fourstar hotels earn £35,000. In large three-star hotels (100 plus bedrooms) managers earn around £55,000 and in large four-star hotels they earn £60,000. Bonuses for managers range from 10 to 30 per cent.
