Met Eireann issues yellow rainfall warning until midnight

A yellow rainfall warning is in place for Leinster, Tipperary and Waterford today with heavy rain having fallen in many areas and the warning to remain in place until midnight.

Met Éireann said heavy thundery showers would affect many places this afternoon and evening "with occasional spot flooding near the east coast", with rainfall likely to reach 25mm at least.

Western coastal counties would tend to remain drier, the forecaster added. It said temperatures would reach 9 to 12 degrees, with light southeasterly winds.

The rain will lift over Leinster and Ulster early tonight, with fog forming locally. Some heavy showers will develop later during the night and can be expected to last til tomorrow .

The AA Roadwatch has issued a rainfall warning and reported the flooding on the Twenty One Bends road in Eniskerry (between the N11 and Enniskerry) and the Rathdrum /Rathnew Rd (R752) between Glenealy and Rathnew. It’s reporting that the Killoughter Cross is impassable on the Bray/ Rathnew Rd and suggesting motorists avoid that route.

Tomorrow is expected to be brighter, with scattered showers and light variable winds becoming moderate in the southwest in the afternoon.
