Fine Gael has called on management at Coca Cola to defer controversial plans to out-source 130 jobs and on unions to suspends the current strike action at the company in a bid to provide space for talks.
The party's enterprise spokesman Leo Varadkar said that he strongly welcomed the intervention of the Labour Relations Commission in the dispute.
Staff at Coca cola's main distribution centres around the country have been on strike for a week now as part of a dispute over out-sourcing.
"Having spoken to both sides, I believe the talks process has not yet been exhausted and there is still scope from an agreement that will allow the company to reduce its costs while ensuring that workers are fully compensated for any change to their terms and conditions".
He called on the company to defer its decision to outsource 130 jobs and the union to suspend industrial action "in order to create a breathing space during which final efforts to come to an agreement can proceed."
