NEWLY APPOINTED Garda Commissioner, Martin Callinan will lead members of the force today when they pay their last respects to their colleague Supt Martin Dorney who died on Friday following a battle with cancer.

Hundreds of mourners attended Supt Dorney’s removal from O’Connor’s funeral home in Wilton in Cork on Saturday evening, among them, Mark and Majella Holohan whose son, Robert was killed near his home in Midleton in 2005.

Supt Dorney, then an inspector, was centrally involved in that investigation which led to the arrest and subsequent conviction of Robert’s neighbour, Wayne O’Donoghue for the manslaughter of the young schoolboy.

Supt Dorney who is survived by his widow, Pauline and children, Aisleigh, Niamh and Ciarán, will be buried at St Oliver’s Cemetery in Cork following 11am Mass at St James Church in Ballinora.
