Further disruption to flights as French air strike spreads

Intending air passengers are being advised to check their airline’s web site before travelling to the airport today because of potential disruption to flights caused by a French air traffic controller strike.

Delays or cancellations should be expected to flights to and from France. The strike could also affect passengers flying to or from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Slovakia.

The strike, which began yesterday, is over an EU plan to create a single European airspace, which controllers say would affect their working conditions and public safety.

Aer Lingus cancelled four flights to and from France today. They were EI 522 and EI524 from Dublin to Paris and EI 523 and EI 525 from Paris to Dublin.

The airline said affected passengers would be carried on the next available flight. All other flights to France are scheduled to operate but passengers should check the status of their flights on aerlingus.com.

Ryanair said many of its flights throughout Europe were delayed or cancelled due to the strike. A full list of affected flights is available on www.ryanair.com.

Passengers may transfer to the next available flight or apply for a refund online or at the airport ticket desk.
