Gardaí were last night awaiting postmortem examinations on the bodies of two men found unconscious in a house in west Dublin yesterday.

The two men, one in his 20s and one in his 30s, were discovered in a house in the Westhaven estate near Hartstown Road yesterday afternoon.

According to gardaí, the two men were taken to the nearby Connolly hospital in Blanchardstown where they were later pronounced dead.

The rented house in the Westhaven estate where the men were found last night remained sealed off. A Garda van was parked in the driveway, while Garda technical officers carried out a forensic examination of the premises.

Garda sources said that based on initial indications, foul play was not suspected in relation to the deaths of the two men. Some sources suggested the men may have died as a result of a drugs overdose.

Neighbours said the men had not been living in the rented house in the estate for very long. However, they added that there had been a number of complaints made to an estate agents in the area over the last month or so about "undesirable activity" in the property.

A number of neighbours claimed that another young man had been taken by ambulance from the house several weeks ago. This could not be confirmed last night.

Neighbours also said there had also been complaints about boisterous behaviour in the area last weekend.

One woman said that following complaints made to the estate agents, neighbours believed that the tenancy agreement for the house was due to end shortly.

In a statement last night, gardaí said that officers in Blanchardstown were investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of two men in an unconscious state at a house in the Westhaven estate, Hartstown Road, between 4pm and 5pm yesterday afternoon.

"The men, one in his 30s and the other in his 20s, were removed to Connolly hospital where they were later pronounced dead. The scene has been preserved for technical examination and the State pathologist has been informed," the statement added.

Last night, gardaí did not release the names of the two men who died. A number of neighbours said they did not know the two men concerned.

Gardaí said that the postmortem examinations on the bodies of the two men would either take place last night or today.
