DONATIONS:THE ST Vincent de Paul has received enough donations of beds, linen and other household goods for flood victims to pack eight warehouses across the country "from floor to ceiling".

The society’s president, Maireád Bushnell, confirmed the massive response to the plight of flood victims yesterday in Ennis, Co Clare. She admitted to being “completely bowled over” by the donations from the public. The society had been given the use of the warehouses “by very generous business people”.

At an opening of a hostel for homeless men in Ennis, she said: “The warehouses are now filled from floor to ceiling with all kinds of equipment that anyone could need in a home.”
