The Greens have announced that they intend to run a second candidate in Dublin North, along with party leader Trevor Sargent, in the forthcoming general election.

At a meeting in Swords the Dublin North branch of the party decided to run a second candidate and picked November 23rd to select the candidate.

Mr Sargent welcomed the decision, saying that the political landscape in Dublin North had been transformed by the retirement of three of its four sitting TDs.

"It was agreed by consensus that now is the time to go for a second Green Party seat in an area that so badly needs the changes that we are working to bring about. A second Green Party TD will help us bring about better quality of life, with more buses and trains, affordable childcare, a hospital in Swords and a school place for every child."
