Dublin Bus syndicate Euromillions ticket sold in Laois

The lucky ticket that won the Euromillions jackpot of almost €24 million for a syndicate of Dublin Bus drivers was bought in Co Laois.

A group of 22 men scooped the €23,845,060 prize and will each take away €,1.083,866.36.

The owner and staff of O’Hanlon’s Spar shop on Station Rd, Portarlingtonconfirmed on Tuesday that they had sold the winning ticket for the draw last Friday.

All their customers have been invited go the shop to toast the good fortune and celebrate the win.

Owner and manager Tom O’Hanlon said the win had created a great “buzz” in the locality.

“ We would like to wish the winners all the best of luck and we hope that they enjoy their good fortune,” he said. The shop is due to receive a bonus payment for selling a winning ticket.

The National Lottery confirmed on Monday that the ticket holder had been in touch.

After news broke of the jackpot win, five of the 22 turned up as usual for their shift at Broadstone garage in north Dublin.

The rest were given a day’s holiday. Of the 22 winners, 20 are senior drivers, one is an inspector and the last is retired.

It is the ninth Irish winner of Euromillions since it was launched in 2004.

Last January an anonymous syndicate won €66,188,316.

Dolores McNamara from Co Limerick won the 12th-highest jackpot of €115,436,126 in the competition's history in 2005.

EuroMillions is played in Ireland, the UK, France, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.
