Garda cancels alert over missing mother and children

Family located in Enniskillen area by PSNI

Gardaí have cancelled an urgent alert in relation to a woman and her three children, after they had last been seen at their Roscommon home at about 3pm yesterday.

They "have been located safe and well by the Police Service of Northern Ireland in the Enniskillen area", the Garda said in a statement.

An off-duty PSNI officer spotted them on the forecourt of a petrol station in Co Fermanagh.

The policeman contacted the PSNI and officers were sent to the scene. The woman was arrested under the Mental Health Act.

The Garda thanked the public and media for their assistance during the Child Rescue Ireland (CRI) alert.

“We also wish to thank and acknowledge co-operation received from the Police Service of Northern Ireland during this investigation,” the statement said.

Earlier a Garda spokesman had said they were asking the public “to ring immediately” with any information they might have on the family’s whereabouts. They were asked to dial emergency services numbers.
