Polish man received serious but non life-threatening injuries in weekend attack

Detectives in Cork have begun an investigation after a 33-year-old Polish man was stabbed during a row in the city centre late on Sunday night.

The man suffered three stab wounds in the back when he was attacked on Tuckey Street off the Grand Parade while socialising with friends at about 10.55pm.

The emergency services were alerted and the man was rushed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he underwent surgery for stab wounds to the back.

The man was described as suffering serious, but non life-threatening injuries and it is expected that he will make a good recovery after undergoing surgery.

Meanwhile the Garda have begun studying CCTV footage from the Tuckey Street area in the hope of identifying those responsible for the stabbing.
