Gridlock in Dublin city after truck fire near Port Tunnel

There was gridlock in parts of Dublin city centre on Thursday evening after a truck caught fire near the entrance to the Port Tunnel.

The tunnel was closed for a time after the blaze at about 5.30pm. It has since reopened.

Gardaí cancelled the five axel truck ban in the city centre as a result.

The fire happened on the northbound M1. Dublin Fire Brigade extinguished the blaze.

Among the affected areas were Dorset Street and Sean Moore Road and the East Link toll bridge. Some Bus Eireann services were also delayed by the fire.

Heavy rain in the city also contrbuted to the traffic problems .
