The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission is investigating the death of a woman in a car crash in Dublin this morning.

The car, in which three people were travelling, hit a pole. It was being followed by gardai at the time of the crash. All three people were seriously injured.

Sinéad Maguire (43), a passenger in the car, with an address in Bayview Avenue, Dublin 3, died in hospital following the crash at the junction of the Malahide Road and Fairview at 1.52am.

A 20-year-old man was taken to St James’s Hospital, where his condition is stable. The driver, aged 26, was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he is critically ill.

Roads in the area, including the Clontarf Road to Howth Road junction reopened to traffic this afternoon.

They had been closed this morning to allow gardaí carry out an examination of the scene.

Gardaí in Clontarf have also appealed for witnesses.

Separately, one person died in a crash on the N81 Blessington Road near Brittas village.

The crash happened at about 2.40am when a car hit a tree.

A Garda spokesman said there were five occupants in the car at the time.

A 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other men, aged 19, 20, 21 and 22 were taken to Tallaght and St Vincent’s hospitals for treatment and their conditions are described as non life threatening.

The N81 at Brittas village was closed for forensic collision examination and diversions were in place this morning.

Gardaí in Tallaght have asked any witnesses to contact them.
