South Dublin apartment block secured for council housing

A block of apartments in a south Dublin development has been secured for local authority homes by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.

The block, containing 28 apartments, is part of the development of more than 100 houses and apartments at Hazelbrook Square in Churchtown.

The block will consist of an equal number of “generous-sized” two- and three-bed apartments.

The 28 apartments, which are nearing completion, are to be handed over by Simon Coyne, the receiver of certain assets of St James's Development Ltd, the developer of Hazelbrook Square.

‘Social mix’

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown cathaoirleach Cormac Devlin said the deal provided for a "very good social mix".

Mr Devlin said the apartments were in addition to any other contributions the initial developer made to the council in terms of social housing.

He said the “ultimate winners” were prospective council tenants.

Mr Coyle said the receivers, “in working with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, are pleased to have come to a successful outcome for Hazelbrook Square”.

He said the deal would result “in delivery of permanent homes on behalf of the county council, arguably one to two years in advance of what was originally planned”.
