Two young men die in separate road crashes

Man in his 30s fatally injured in Co Tipperary while 21-year-old dies in Co Tyrone

Two men died in separate road crashes across the island of Ireland on Wednesday.

In the Republic, a man in his 30s died when the car he was driving crashed in Co Tipperary at about 9.45pm.

The man was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene on the R664 at Garyduff, Aherlow, Co Tipperary.

His body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford where a postmortem will take place at a later date.

The road was closed to allow for a technical examination to take place by Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and contact Tipperary town Garda station on 062 806 70, the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Lorry

Separately, in Northern Ireland, a man died following a collision involving a vehicle recovery lorry in Co Tyrone.

Lee Usher (21) from Portadown, died at the scene of the collision in the Tullywiggan Road area of Cookstown on Wednesday.

Sgt Joanne Boyd said: “Officers, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, received and responded to a report of a collision in the Tullywiggan Road area shortly before 3.45pm.

“The collision occurred close to the junction with Bramble Lane.

“The road was closed for some time but has since reopened.”
